Mgr. Petr Vachler

director, Director of the Czech Film and Television Academy (ČFTA)

He was born in Strakonice on 29 January, 1966. After having completed primary school, he graduated from high school in his native town. He participated in competitive swimming, in the first league. He was member of the selections of national junior teams of the CSR and CSSR, he played national league in water polo. In the year 1988, he graduated from the Faculty of Pedagogy of Charles University, in the subject of defectology. After one-year obligatory military service, he continued study at FAMU faculty, in the subjects of dramatic art and scenography. Within three years, he left this faculty voluntarily for work reasons and fully dedicated himself to his own firm - Vachler Art Company (VAC). At the beginning, this company was concentrated mainly on advertising: he directed and produced spots (advertising ŠkoFin, Olympus...) and videoclips (Lucie, JAR, Janek Ledecký...). Now, he produces, writes and directs television programmes for all the national TV stations (ČT, Nova as well as Prima), such as Kinobox, Prologues, Make your bet, Video-mania...). In addition to other works, he is the co-author of the most extensive document on the Czech cinematography "The Faces of the Czech Film". In the year 1993, he prepared the first year of the annual film prizes of "the Czech Lion", of which contest he is the author. In the subsequent ten years, he was both the produced and director of this contest. In the year 1995, he founded the Czech Film and Television Academy, of which he is the director until now. At present, he is preparing, among other, his full-length film debut.
