JUDr. Miroslav Somol, CSc.![]() Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Dr. Somol was born in 1952 in Kladno. He finished the Law Faculty of Charles University with the specialisation in international public law and international law of organisations. He continued in his postgraduate studies in the same specialisation in the Institute of State and Law of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in the year 1984. In the year 1975 he started to work in the Federal Ministry of International Trade - Central Technical Administration in the sphere of bilateral trade relations (section of USSR, Poland and Yugoslavia). Starting from 1979 he worked in the sphere of multilateral trade policy in relation to international trade organisations of the UNO system. Between 1989 and 1991 he worked as the commercial attaché in Syria and after returning home as the director of the department and then section of multilateral trade policy at the Federal Ministry of International Trade. By the beginning of the year 1993 he became the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Trade for the sphere of international trade policy and internal trade. In this period he was also active as the chairman of the supervisory council of the Czech Export Bank. In the years 1996 - 2001 he worked as the permanent representative of the Czech Republic at the UNO and other international organisations in Geneva. During this period he held the posts of the chairman of the Commission of the UNO for Human Rights and chairman of the Economic Commission of the UNO for Europe. From July 1, 2001 Dr. Somol has been working as the Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade for multilateral relations and European integration, at present he is responsible for the sector of foreign trade policy and European integration. |
