PhDr. Michal Lukeš![]() Director General of the National Museum He was born in Prague on April 30, 1975. After finishing his grammar-school studies he began studying history at the Faculty of Philosophy of Charles University in Prague. He finished his university studies in 1999, and in 2002 he received his doctorate in modern Czech history. He worked in the National Museum, in its Modern History Department, from 1993 to 1997. He was involved in museum work also as an employee of the Military Museum. He acquired experience in managerial work as Deputy Manager of Prague’s Divadlo Bez zábradlí (Theatre Without Balustrade). In January 2002 the Minister of Culture of the Czech Republic appointed him to the post of the Managing Director of Prague´s National Museum, the biggest museum institution in the Czech Republic. Since the end of his university studies he has also been lecturing on history at the Faculty of Philosophy of Charles University, specializing in modern Czech and Slovak history and Central European history. He has also been publishing specializedarticles and studies on these topics. As for his other activities, mention should be made of his work in the executive of the Association of Museum and Galleries the Czech Republic, in the Art Council of the National Theatre and the Curatorium of the Slovak National Museum. Dr. Michal Lukeš is single, without children. |
