Director of the Bohuslav Martinů Institute

was born in Teplice town, studied the subject of violin at the Conservatoire in Plzeň town. In the years 1985 – 1989, he graduated from the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague, in the subject of musicology. Since 1989, he has been postgraduate student of musicology at the University in Basel. Since 1995, he has been the director of Bohuslav Martinů´s Institute, in the years 1995 – 2000, he was the secretary of Bohuslav Martinů´s Foundation in Prague. In Czech as well as foreign specialized magazines and collections of works, he published a number of studies relating to music of the 20th century, in particular about the life and work of Bohuslav Martinů. He reconstructed the first version of the opera "the Greek Passion", which had its world opening night at the festival in Bregenz, Austria, in July, 1999 and in August, 2001, the full score and the piano score of this opera were published by Universal Edition Wien. He prepared, as an editor, the Concerto for Two Spring Orchestras, Piano and Timpani, H.271, for its critical edition. He founded the regular musicological colloquium "Prague Music Life at the Beginning of the 20th Century", edited the collection of works from this colloquium. He is one of the scriptwriters and is the narrator of the documentary film "Bohuslav Martinů. Return from Exile", produced by the Czech Television the year 1998, and of the documentary film "Martinů and the States" produced by the Czech Television in the year 2000.

He composed music to a number of Czech films and television productions, e.g. to the films "Button Makers" (Knoflíkáři) by P. Zelenka, 1997 and "We must help one another" (Musíme si pomáhat), by J. Hřebejk, 2000; the latter was nominated for OSCAR 2000 in the category of the best foreign film and, starting from June, 2001, it has been distributed by Sony Pictures Classics in the U.S.A., Latin America and Europe. He also co-operates with Prague theatres.

He is married with Jarmila Mothejziková, with whom he has three sons – Vilém (*1998), Viktor (*2000) and Marek (*2002).
