Uniqueness of the region: The town of Kutná Hora with its historical centre registered in the UNESCO World Heritage List, Karlštejn (a proposal was drafted to include it in the UNESCO World Heritage list).

Significant historical event: In 1757 at Kolín - an important battle of the Seven Years' War (a war between Austria and Prussia).

Outstanding historical personality: Saint Adalbert (born in Libice nad Cidlinou).

Significant cultural monument: Karlštejn castle, Konopiště chateau, Kutná Hora.

Significant natural locality: Křivoklát area - UNESCO Biospheric Reserve, Bohemian Karst Protected Landscape Area.

Significant investment project: Construction of the Kolín - Ovčáry Industrial Zone (car industry - Toyota Works)

Outstanding contemporary personality: Tomáš Topol - writer, Michal Viewegh - writer, Lucie Bílá - singer, Jaromír Jágr - ice-hockey player.

Typical product: Škoda Auto cars, products of the breweries in Krušovice and Velké Popovice, surgical steel (former Poldi Kladno steelworks), cut glass from the joint-stock company Sklárny Bohemia, a. s. Poděbrady.

Typical food:

  • Řepánky - cakes filled with beetroot, sugar and poppy seeds (Elbe valley area)
  • Pork banquet
  • Šimlík - cake filling: ground mixture of poppy seeds, cottage cheese and sugar (Mělník area)

Folklore: Elbe Valley Ethnographic Museum (Polabské národopisné museum) in Přerov nad Labem (open-air museum with folk buildings), Kouřim open-air museum (Museum of Folk Buildings in Kouřim).

Tourist destination: Kutná Hora, Karlštejn

Cooperation with Japan:
The Japanese Showa Aluminium Corp. is a foreign investor with a share in the Czech limited-liability company Showa Aluminium Czech s.r.o. Kladno.

The Mitsubishi firm built a new plant in the new Slaný - sever Industrial Zone for the production of parts for car industry.

The Toyota firm is building a new car production plant in the Kolín - Ovčáry Industrial Zone.
