Uniqueness of the region: a stud farm in Kladruby nad Labem, a hippology museum in Slatiňany, the horse race - the Grand Steeplechase in Pardubice. Significant historical event: J. Kašpar made first take-off with a plane in the Czech Republic in 1910 and the first long-distance flight from Pardubice to Prague in 1911. Outstanding historical personality: Bedřich Smetana (composer), Bohuslav Martinů (composer), Jan Kašpar (pioneer of aviation), Arnošt of Pardubice (bishop and diplomat), Josef Ressler (inventor) Significant cultural monument: castles in Litomyšl (included in UNESCO's List) and Pardubice Significant natural locality: the mountain "Králický Sněžník" (1423 m) - a Protected Landscape Area and European Significant investment project: Investment opportunities offered by our region are used, for instance, by the following companies: Matsushita Communication Industry, Foxconn CZ, Westvaco, Renault SA, Saint -Gobain- Vertex, Toyoda Koki Automotive Czech Republic, Kayaba Industry and a number of others. Outstanding contemporary personality: Jaroslava Moserová (a politician, translator, physician) Typical product: ginger bread Typical food: pork roast with dumplings and cabbage, various kinds of ginger bread from Pardubice Folklore: a set of typical rural structures Vysočina Tourist destination: Outstanding architectonic monuments include medieval castles, which were built since the 13th century in strategic locations of the region, like Lichnice, Oheb, Rychmburk or the fort of Svojšice, the castles Lanšperk, Brandýs nad Orlicí and Žampach in the district of Ústí nad Orlicí or the castles of Žumberk, Rabštejn and others in the district of Chrudim. The most important monuments of historical architecture in the northern part of the Pardubice Region are related to the older Moravian aristocratic family of Pernštejn, which built, among others, the two mighty citadels of Litice nad Orlicí and Kunětická hora. A large number of tourists use the summer recreation offer at the Seč Dam. Cooperation with Japan: A large plot of land has been purchased in this industrial park by Toyoda Koki Automotive Czech Republic, s.r.o., which has started building a manufacturing plant for production of automobile components (shift systems, gear and axle components). The opening of the plant is scheduled for April/May 2004. The city of Pardubice has reserved a plot of land in its industrial park also for Kayaba Industry, which has officially published its decision to build its investment project in our region. This company also represents automotive industry. Other cooperation has taken place in culture. The boy choir Bonifantes from Pardubice has successfully performed this year in Japan. The 10th City Festival in Pardubice, which was held in the House of Music, also hosted the Japanese soprano Fumiko Nishimatsu with a choir. The Department of International Relations of the Pardubice University presents the offer of postgraduate studies of the The Matsumae International Foundation, which offers scholarships in its MIF Research Fellowship Program. A certain level of cooperation with Japanese partners was also established by the Aikido club in Pardubice, the representatives of which participated in a training seminar in Japan. Contact: |
