Philadelphia 1926

Between May and November 1926, mainly thanks to the flexible, prompt organizational skills of František Peroutka, the Minister of Industry and Trade, Czechoslovakia took part in the International Exposition in Philadelphia, held to mark the 150th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence (which is inextricably linked with this city). The Czechoslovak pavilion, a monumental affair designed by Ladislav Machoň, was build in the shape of the letter L. Visitors entered the ground-floor lobby, turned right, passed through the promotional hall, and came to the Hall of Czech Americans. Turning left and climbing the steps, visitors found themselves in the City of Prague Hall, and the final section of the exposition was the Hall of the National Revival, which offered a brief sojourn on a terrace. Special attention was paid to the lighting. The flat roof over the lobby and the promotional hall, and also above the Hall of the National Revival, was glazed. The daylight in the Hall of Czech Americans came from the glazed corners of the room.
